Ernie’s Market was founded in 1965 by Ernie and Millie Riegsecker. The couple started the business with a small grocery store in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Over the years, they expanded their business to include several more stores in the Midwest. In 2019, Ernie’s Market was acquired by SpartanNash, a large grocery store chain.
The Riegseckers ran Ernie’s Market as a family business for many years. Their son, Steve, became the company’s president in 1995. Under his leadership, Ernie’s Market expanded to more than 50 locations across four states. Steve Riegsecker remains the president of Ernie’s Market today.
